About 15,000 years ago, the carving out of the Fish Creek Valley by a retreating glacier exposed the bedrock formation along the creek bed. This glacier also left a variety of geological formations throughout the park, such as the sandstone outcroppings at Raven Rocks Preservation Zone and large boulders called erratics (pictured above at the Bow Valley Ranch).
