Welcome to The Impact of Urbanization on Plant-Pollinator Relationships! Join us for an exciting event where we explore:
(1) How urbanization impacts native and non-native plant-pollinator species interactions.
(2) The community benefits and learning opportunities of participating in community/citizen science.
This event has changed to Online - ONLY. This is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
Through urbanization, humans negatively impact biodiversity. In urban centers, many natural habitats have been modified or replaced with human-centered infrastructure, making wildlife habitats harder to access and travel between. Additionally, use of harmful chemicals and the introduction of invasive plant species has further modified urban wildlife habitats, especially suitable pollinator habitats.
Justine Doll is a master’s student at the University of Calgary studying the impacts of urbanization on native plant-pollinator interactions and the benefits of community focused citizen science programs. She completed her BSc in health science at Mount Royal University in 2021 and has since switched over to study ecology and be a full-time plant nerd. Justine runs the Calgary Pollinators Project on iNaturalist and hosts community pollinator walks during the spring and summer to help teach people about the importance of pollinators. In her spare time, Justine likes to hike, snowboard, paint, and play volleyball. Don't miss this educatonal opportunity to learn about the pollinators that call the natural spaces around us home!
