DESCRIPTION:The Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park\nThursday\, October 25\, 2018 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm\nPresented by Julie MacDougall\, Senior Parks Planner – South Region Alberta Environment and Parks \nEnvironmental Learning Centre\, Shannon Terrace\, Fish Creek Provincial Park – 13931 Woodpath Rd SW \nThe Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park were established in January 2017. Concurrent with the establishment of the Parks a management plan was released for public consultation\, with the final plan being approved in May 2018. This presentation will cover the rational for the establishment of the Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park\, an overview of the conservation\, wildlife and ecological values of the area and the unique opportunities that we have to work with Indigenous Peoples and to establish new recreational opportunities. The story of the Rockies\, its rivers and valleys\, glaciers and hot springs\, caves and karst\, mountain building and erosion unfolds. With eye-catching illustrations and photographs\, this presentation and guidebook blends story telling with science and natural beauty with easy to understand explanations. Enjoy a slideshow presentation and book signing of “Rocks\, Ridges\, and Rivers.” \nDale Leckie has a Ph.D. in Geology from McMaster University\, a M.Sc. in Geography from McMaster University and B.Sc. in Geography from University of Alberta. Dale is a professional geologist who has worked as a scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada and as chief geologist in a large Canadian energy company. He has edited numerous books and published more than one hundred papers\, many on the geology of western Canada. He is an adjunct professor in the Geoscience Department at University of Calgary. Dale has been president of the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) and Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG). Dale is recognized for his long-term contributions to geology and is an honorary member of SEPM and CSPG.He has been awarded numerous awards from several geological societies.
