SUMMARY:Tour: Knowing our Grasslands
DESCRIPTION:A walking tour through the Bow Valley Ranch grasslands in Fish Creek\, discussing native plants\, identification\, and our grassland ecosystem. \n\n\n\nAre you interested in learning more about the grassland ecosystem?\n\n\n\nThe Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society will be running Grassland Walking Tours throughout the month of August. Come to learn about our grassland ecosystem\, the plants that inhabit it\, and how to start forming a relationship with the natural world. \n\n\n\nThis tour is open to all skill levels – beginners are welcome! \n\n\n\nWhat to expect: \n\n\n\n\nA short\, ~2km loop\n\n\n\nA beginners guide on identifying plants\n\n\n\nA discussion on the past\, present\, and future of our grasslands\n\n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nCome dressed for the weather\n\n\n\nWalking\, preferably closed-toe shoes\n\n\n\nSunscreen\, bug spray\, a water bottle\n\n\n\n\nLocation: All tours will begin and end at the Visitor Centre in Bow Valley Ranch (15979 Bow Bottom Trail SE). Parking is available on site. \n\n\n\nDates: \n\n\n\n\nThursday\, August 20th\n\n\n\n\nTime: \n\n\n\n10:00 am to 11:30 am \n\n\n\nCost: Individual $10\, Family $25 (up to 2 adults and children in same household) \n\n\n\n50 % off for Friends of Fish Creek members and volunteers \n\n\n\nAbout the tour guide: \n\n\n\nBones Whittaker (they/them)\, Candidate for Bachelors of Environmental Studies in Environment\, Resources\, and Sustainability \n\n\n\nBones is a third-year student in the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment\, and is currently acting as Environmental Program Coordinator for the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society. Born and raised in Alberta\, they’ve become familiar with ecosystems across Alberta and Canada\, especially fascinated by native and invasive plant species of the North. \n
