Spectra

The Friends of Fish Creek would like to invite your group to Fish Creek Provincial Park, for a personalized and educational team building experience.  We offer experiences that are facilitated by our staff, which include ecology education, stewardship instruction, supervision, a safety briefing, and all tools and equipment your group will need to safely engage in your chosen activity.  We can work with groups of 10 to 50 people, depending on the activity.

Using a social enterprise model, there is a program fee to participate in these experiences.  These fees enable us to provide the necessary supplies and equipment for your experience, and cover some of the staff costs associated with coordinating and facilitating your experience.  This model helps to ensure we can continue executing our critical stewardship and education initiatives into the future, and engage more community members in this important work.  We recognize that not all groups will have the financial means to pay for these private experiences, and if that’s the case for you, our Mini Experience or a Park Clean Up may be of interest!

Groups taking part in these experiences must have insurance covering their participants.  If your group does not have insurance, each participant will need to sign a waiver upon arrival.

Information and program rates provided here are for the 2024 season (and may be subject to change).  See Terms & Conditions.

FACILITATED STEWARDSHIP EXPERIENCES

(Lead by Friends of Fish Creek Ecology and Conservation staff)

Grassland Restoration

This event invites participants to remove invasive species, create or maintain solarization beds, and introduce native flora to help regenerate natural ecosystems. Healthy grasslands are vanishingly small in Fish Creek Park and so supporting the creation of a restored grassland space provides valuable grassland functions that otherwise would not take place. This includes support for pollinator species, mammals of all kinds, and habitat for plenty of birds.

      • April through to August
      • Full-day volunteer experience (2-3 hours)
      • Up to 15 adults
      • Program fee: $800

Riparian Restoration

This activity invites participants to construct a restoration site by installing fencing, remove invasive species, mulching, and water as well as plant a variety of native plant species. As riparian spaces develop, they provide valuable habitat for every species in the park, including fish and invertebrates!

      • April through June, then September and October
      • Half-day volunteer experience (2-3 hours)
      • Up to 15 adults
      • Program fee: $2,500

Tree Wrapping

This activity involves installing or removing wire cages to selectively deter wildlife from predating vegetation. It helps preserve healthy trees and increase biodiversity over time. As beavers move through the park, they thin out the overstory, eliminating larger trees and making gaps for marginal plants to develop while encouraging canopy regeneration.

      • September through October
      • Half-day volunteer experience (2-3 hours)
      • Up to 20 adults
      • Program fee: $1,000

Restoration Stewardship – Weed Pull

Engage your group in the battle against invasive species in Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Removing weeds is a great first step to restoring the ecosystem at Fish Creek Park. Many species need removal from the park including numerous species listed on the provinces prohibited noxious list! Your group will have the opportunity to learn a bit about invasive plant species in Calgary, the damage they can do to healthy ecosystems, as well as effect change on the ground that both limits spread and carves the path towards a more naturalized park space.

      • April through October
      • Half-day volunteer experience (2-3 hours)
      • Up to 30 adults
      • Program fee: $500

SELF-DIRECTED STEWARDSHIP EXPERIENCE

(Independent of Friends of Fish Creek Ecology and Conservation staff)

Park Clean Up

Mobilize your team to help keep Fish Creek beautiful!  Your group chooses the date, time and location to run this self-directed outing, and we provide the tools, personal protective equipment, guidance and safety information in advance.  We accept contributions using a Pay-What-You-Can model, to support ongoing equipment purchase and maintenance.
