Fish Creek Provincial Park: Its History and Changes

This presentation on Fish Creek Provincial Park will tell the story of how the park was created and how the park changed over the past 40 years. Part of the story is also the growth of Calgary and how this influenced the growth of the park and its historical past. At this presentation you will also learn about the people who either changed the park or became a character in the park history, including John Glenn, William Roper Hull, Pat Burns and more.
Wayne Meikle, founding member of the Friends of Fish Creek and retired park planner, has worked for Provincial Parks in Alberta for 35 years. He worked extensively in the area of urban park management and has been involved in operations, construction, and planning of urban parks. In Fish Creek, Wayne was instrumental in the construction of the 37th St. Bridge, the development of park pathways, the engineered wetlands, and the bridge reconstruction following the floods of 2005. For the City of Calgary, he has been on numerous planning teams involved in the planning and construction of major infrastructure like roadways, wetlands, and new subdivisions.
