Dedicate a Bench in Fish Creek and Leave a Lasting Legacy
The park brings up different memories for everyone: afternoons spent cycling through shady poplar groves, evening strolls set to the melody of birdsong, or moments spent celebrating family and loved ones. If Fish Creek Provincial Park is an important place to you or someone close to you, why not honour that closeness through a bench dedication?
Through a special partnership with Alberta Parks, the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society is able to offer benches throughout the park so there’s a place to sit and reflect on your most precious moments.
By dedicating a bench, you can create a space for you and your loved ones to remember your most meaningful moments in the very place that they happened.
How it Works
1. Pick your bench location.
Review the map of bench areas and choose your preferred site(s). Please be aware that some areas have higher bench availability than others, so wait times may vary depending on the location chosen (wait times can be up to 1-4 years).
The Friends of Fish Creek’s bench inventory is over 110 benches, but not all benches will be available in a given year. If your preferred bench location is not on the list at all, please contact us to discuss options.
2. Register for a bench.
Once you’ve decided the best place for this important commemoration, fill in and submit the Dedication Bench Registration form . Soon after, we’ll contact you to confirm your details and send an invoice for the $500 deposit so you can finalize your spot on the waitlist.
This deposit is tax-receiptable, and fully refundable in the year it is made should you change your mind. Please note that deposits are not refundable in subsequent years.
3. Wait for a bench to become available.
Now that you’re on the waitlist, the hardest part begins—waiting for a bench to become available! Once this happens, we will reach out to you (typically early in the year) with a list of bench locations so you can choose the right spot.
4. Sign your contract and decide on your inscription.
After choosing your bench location, we’ll send a contract and an inscription form where you’ll tell us how you want to honour your special person in text.
You’ll also receive an invoice for the remaining balance, less your deposit ($4,750 in 2025), which must be paid within three weeks of contract receipt. Once we get your payment, we’ll issue you a tax receipt for the full amount of your memorial bench payment—deposit and balance.
5. Bench installation.
The final step. We install benches every year between May 15 and September 15. We’ll email you to let you know when your bench installation is happening and once its complete. Through our partners, we also maintain benches twice yearly, including replacing worn materials, re-staining, and weeding around the base.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a bench dedication donation include?
The dedication bench fee covers: a completely new bench installed in your desired location, a custom bronze-plaque, 10 years of semi-annual maintenance (including replacement parts), and program administration costs. Any remaining proceeds go towards supporting the Friends’ mission here in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Do I own the bench?
The bench and the area it sits on remains the property of Alberta Parks at all times.
What if my contact information changes?
Be sure to inform the Friends of Fish Creek as soon as possible if your phone/email changes, whether you are on the waitlist or are a current dedication bench holder. If the Friends are unable to contact you, you may lose out on getting a bench in your desired location.
Can I decorate the bench or plant flowers around it?
No decorating or planting around the bench is permitted according to Alberta Parks regulations.
