William Watson Lodge – Providing 40 Years of Inclusion and Accessibility in Alberta Parks

Thursday, January 23, 2020 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Provincial Park

Presented by Jill Jamieson – William Watson Lodge Team Lead Kananaskis Region, Alberta Parks

William Watson Lodge in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park is a fully accessible accommodation venue that provides people living with disabilities and reduced mobility opportunities to experience the breathtaking Kananaskis area. Premier Peter Lougheed and his wife Jeanne opened the lodge in 1981 as an Alberta Environment and Parks facility and grounds. William Watson Lodge is on the east side of the Lower Kananaskis Lake, offering 22 fully accessible units, 13 fully serviced RV sites, over 20 km of accessible trails and Day Lodge.

The facility was named after William (Bill) Watson, an Albertan who was born with a disability but spent his life enjoying the outdoors and working hard challenge current attitudes about disabled persons. Join Jill Jamieson, William Watson Lodge Team Lead, to learn about the history of William Watson Lodge, programming available there, and to increase your awareness about how each of us is journeying to a greater understanding of inclusion and accessibility.

Jill is the Team lead for William Watson Lodge in K country. She has spent her professional life supporting children, youth and families engaging with the natural world and building healthier relationships with themselves, each other and the natural world. Jill managed the YMCA’s Camp Chief Hector for close to 20 years, instructed in the ETOL program at Mount Royal University, has her own practice as a Leadership and Life coach and now is leading and learning with Alberta Parks.
