About:
Prairie coneflower is often bright yellow (pictured), but has a natural red colored variant. Prairie coneflower seed germinates really well, and the flowers usually produce seed in the first season. The plant often has many branches, and the leaves are highly divided. Prairie coneflower can easily grow from 30-60+ cm, depending on moisture conditions. Its native range is predominantly to the east and south of Calgary, however we include this species in our grassland restoration sites in the Bow Valley Ranch (pictured above) as it is a very dry tolerant species that can grow in a future Fish Creek with migrating climate zones associated with global warming
