Support Environmental Education in Fish Creek
Donate through Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink
The Friends are very grateful to be one of over 270 Alberta-based charities chosen to take part in the Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program. We will once again be participating in Birdies for Kids to raise funds in support of the Learning Naturally program.
Learning Naturally provides a truly unforgettable experience for children between grades K – 6 from economically-disadvantaged Calgary schools. Through their field trip in the park, elementary school children learn about the wonders of the natural world through a variety of educational programs. Many of the children in the TD Learning Naturally program are new to Canada and their field trip to Fish Creek Provincial Park acts as their introduction to the world of nature, wildlife, the environment and conservation in this country.
By donating through Birdies for Kids, your donation will be matched up to 50 % by the Shaw Charity Classic Foundation. It costs approximately $10 to provide one unforgettable field trip to one student, so by donating only $20, you will help support three children through a subsidized educational experience in the park. Imagine how many lives you can change with a donation of $100! We invite you to donate to Learning Naturally through the Birdies for Kids matching program, as even a modest donation can make a big difference in the life of a young child.
Special thanks the Greenfield Foundation for once again supporting Learning Naturally this year with a most generous contribution!
Quotes from students in the TD Learning Naturally program –
Grade 4 student: “Miss Kaylee! We have found so many animal tracks and habitat! Look, another habitat!”
Grade 3 student: “Miss Kaylee, you have the best job! You get to be surrounded by this beautiful nature every single day!”
Grade 2 student: “These trees are so beautiful!”
Kindergarten student: “This was the best day of my whole life!”
Grade 1 students: “Can we come back tomorrow? Can we live here? I want to stay here forever!”
This essential and life-changing educational program has never received government funding its continuation is in jeopardy. Help us reach our goal of raising $25,000 towards the Learning Naturally program so that 2,500 children will be able to enjoy a field trip in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Donations made directly through Birdies for Kids to Learning Naturally will receive a tax receipt from the Shaw Charity Classic Foundation. Please contribute in support of children and nature, speak to your employer about donating through Birdies for Kids, or if you are a business owner, consider making a tax-deductible donation through your community-focused business.
