The Fish Creek Community Showcase is a social enterprise endeavour that allows the Friends of Fish Creek to support the great work of local artists, photographers, authors and other members of the community. Both parties benefit from this initiative; the artists receive exposure of their work through our extensive network of members, supporters and volunteers, and are able to make sales in this Provincial Park (which is only allowed through association with a group like the Friends), and the Friends benefit from receiving a percentage of sales made during the Showcase.
Each Showcase runs for approximately three months.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not currently able to host our usual “Meet the Artist” event to kick off each showcase, nor are we able to invite members of the public in to the Cookhouse. If you are interested in purchasing one of the Showcase pieces, you can do so by booking an appointment to come in.
Leonor Henriquez Leon – Hopecrumbs
Leonor Henriquez Leon is a new author, who has brilliantly recorded her journey through grief after the loss of her husband in her first publication, Hopecrumbs. Leonor is an inspired writer and a poet at heart, and has bravely chosen to share her experience with others, in the hope that they will find some comfort and support in knowing that they are not alone when faced with a significant loss in life. She is a strong proponent of the ability of nature to support emotional health and healing; in fact, much of her own healing was supported through her deep connection to Fish Creek Provincial Park.
This is how Leonor describes herself, and her book.
“In 1999, true love touched my life. I met Meen (Marinus, MJ in this memoir).
Our love was colourful and exuberant. We were Birds of Paradise. Life was simple. Couldn’t be simpler, couldn’t be better.
I have a son, Santiago, and a daughter, Leonor, my angels. They have overwhelmed my soul with their love and kindness. I have two reasons to live for: my grandchildren, Tomas and Natalia. Instant Joy.
Canada welcomed my family in 2006 and we were all proud to be part of this beautiful country.
On November 23rd, 2016, I was dragged into a spiral of surreal events. His heart stopped. I lost hope.
These words are the written expression of my very intimate mourning process and my ultimate love tribute to him.”
