Invasive Alien Plants – Practices That Lead to Prevention
Thursday, May 21, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Online using Zoom Video Conferencing Technology
Presented by Andrea Eastham, Alberta Invasive Species Council Volunteer
Invasive plant species may look appealing and even have useful qualities on the surface, but when introduced to a new environment, they have the potential to disperse and take over. Without predatory species to combat invasive species, they will alter vegetation, wildlife, and the natural beauty of native ecosystems. Invasive alien plants, both terrestrial and aquatic, are recognized worldwide as one of the major threats to biodiversity second only to urbanization.
Without predatory species to combat Invasive Species, they can alter vegetation, wildlife, and the natural beauty of native ecosystems. Invasive plants have detrimental impacts on several industries, the environment, recreation, infrastructure, human health and safety, with increasing socio-economic consequences. Learn how invasive alien plants spread and how they are managed in Canada. Increase your ability to identify invasive plant species and learn how to prevent their spread through work and recreational activities.
